TEHRAN (IQNA) – Deputy Secretary General of Bahrain’s Islamic Amal Society said certain regional countries are attempting to make the Bahraini uprising a forgotten one.

Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Abdullah al-Saleh said these wealthy countries in the region are working to make sure that the media make no mention of Bahrain’s revolution.

He underlined that the legitimate demands of the people of Bahrain have been met and that arresting and torturing the protesters and cracking down on the peaceful protests continue in the Persian Gulf island country.

He slammed the long-term prison terms handed to Bahraini clerics by the Manama regime, saying that 18 clerics who are opposed to the ruling regime are in prison.

Sheikh al-Saleh noted that Ahmed al-Majed,Sheikh Ali Salman, Fazil Abbas, Sheikh Hassan Issa and Ibrahim Sharif are among Bahraini scholars who are behind bars because of their opposition to the regime.

He also referred to attempts aimed at separating Bahrain from the axis of resistance, stressing that the country is part of the resistance along with Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.

Bahrain, a staunch ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Troops from Saudi Arabia have been also deployed to Bahrain to assist in its crackdown on the peaceful protesters.
