TEHRAN (IQNA) – A week after the ruling regime in Bahrain executed three young activists, protest rallies continue to be held in the Persian Gulf country.

Protests Continue in Bahrain Days after Execution of Shia Activists

According to Mirat al-Bahrain website, in one of the rallies held in Sanabis, a village near Manama that is the hometown of the three, people from all walks of life condemned the crime committed by the Al Khalifa regime.

The protesters carried pictures of the three martyrs and chanted anti-regime slogans.

In Akar district, southeast of Manama, the demonstrators clashed with security forces, who used tear gas and shotguns to disperse them.

On January 15, Bahrain carried out its first execution after a more than six-year hiatus.

The executions of Shia activists Sami Mushaima, Abbas Jamil Tahir al-Sami’ and Ali Abdulshahid al-Singace came after the Court of Cassation upheld the death penalties given to the trio over allegations of killing a member of Emirati forces in al-Daih in March 2014.

The defendants had denied the charges.

Bahrain has a majority Shia population which has long complained of marginalization by the regime.

The country has been rocked by sporadic unrest since March 2011 when security forces brutally crushed an Arab Spring-inspired uprising.
