According to libyaakhbar.com, the opening ceremony was held yesterday afternoon with a speech delivered by Abdul Rahman Ahriash, a deputy prime minister.
He welcomed the participants and thanked the Libyan Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Department for organizing the event.
Other speakers included the head of the Awqaf department and a Hajj department official.
The competition is being held in the categories of Tajweed recitation and memorization of the Quran.
The Bilal bin Rabah Mosque in Bayada is hosting the contest, which will run until the 16th day of the holy month of Ramadan.
