Int’l Quran Competition Underway in Egypt

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 26th international Quran contest of Egypt began in the North African country on Saturday.

 

The October 6 City in Giza province is hosting the event.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mukhtar Guma said 60 countries, including 30 African ones, are taking part in the Quranic event, Sadi al-Balad website reported.

Also speaking was the Egyptian grand Mufti, Shawki Allam, who highlighted his country’s efforts to promote Quran recitation and memorization and organize Quran competitions.

Earlier, Guma had said that the Awqaf ministry had allocated one million Egyptian pounds to present as cash prizes to winners.

He added that five Quran experts from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Sudan would join two Egyptian experts to make up the panel of Judges.

The 26th edition of Egypt’s international Quran competition has been named after late Qari Sheikh Mahmoud al-Hussary.

It will wrap up on March 29.
