Sheikh Abbas Qomi; A Great Role Model
Also known as Mohaddith Qomi, Sheikh Abbas Qomi (1877-1941) was a Shia scholar, historian, and Hadith narrator. He wrote books, including Mafatih al-Jinan.
He studied with great scholars like Muhaddith Nouri and Mirza Muhammad Taqi Shirazi as well as Seyed Mohammad Kazem Yazdi.
Sheikh Abbas Qomi reached a high status in Fiqh and trained great scholars like Aqa Bozorg Tehrani and Ayatollah Shahabuddin Marashi Najafi.
What is important about his character is that Sheikh Abbas Qmoi strived to gain God’s contentment and the valuable book Mafatih al-Jinan is the result of that.
Today, we miss him so much as we more than ever need ethics and spirituality.
That is what religion is for. We should move toward the golden rules and criteria of ethics. We can see many of these rules in the Quran and the words of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS). Today the world is moving toward global ethics and golden methods and these methods can be found in the Quran and the Seerah of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
Mafatih al-Jinan is a book of supplications. The main point about supplications and prayers is one’s direct connection with God.
Mankind is inherently in need and dependent on God and he is nothing without Him.
According to Allameh Tabatabaei, prophets of God came to introduce God to people. In different supplications, God’s beauty and grandeur have been highlighted and mankind can become a manifestation of His beauty and grandeur.
