IQNA – The head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement described the country’s victory against the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri terrorist group as a great religious accomplishment.

Head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim

In a message on the occasion of the anniversary of the victory against Daesh, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim said it would not have been achieved without the Fatwa of the Marja’iya (Shia religious authority) and the sacrifices of the Iraqi army, police, Popular Mobilization Units (PMU or Hashd al-Shaabi) and others.

He added that defeating Daesh was a great epic that opened a new chapter for Iraq and drew everyone’s respect for the country.

The cleric went on to say that in order to safeguard this stunning triumph and building a better future, the Iraqi nation has the opportunity to stabilize its democratic experience via the ballot boxes.

Daesh terrorists made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

Afterwards, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after grand source of emulation Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for the fight against the militants, blunted the edge of Daesh offensive and forced the terrorist group withdraw from much of the areas it had occupied.
