TEHRAN (IQNA) – Thanks to Imam Khomeini’s (RA) view of women’s status in Islam, Iranian women regained their rights after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

This is according to Iranian cultural attaché in Lebanon Abbas Khameyar who delivered a speech at a webinar titled “Family in Imam Khomeini’s Thought”.

The webinar was held on Friday on the 31st anniversary of demise of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Khameyar said Imam Khomeini’s statement that “man ascends to Heaven from the lap of a woman” is the best comment that shows the late figure’s view of the role of women in society.

He added that since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iranian women have demonstrated their capabilities in such fields as science, arts, and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

Ayatollah Ruhollah Mousavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, engineered Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.
