TEHRAN (IQNA) – Families all over Iran will stay at home on Thursday, the day of Arbaeen, to recite the Arbaeen Supplication.

The Islamic Development Coordination Council said the in a statement that given the restrictions existing due to the coronavirus pandemic, recitation of the Arbaeen Supplication will be held at homes this year.

The Arbaeen Supplication on visiting Imam Hussein (AS) is a ziarat of Imam Hussein (AS) which is recited on the day of Arbaeen.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

However, there have been restrictions for Arbaeen processions this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
