TEHRAN (IQNA) – Two mobile medical units set up by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) were burned in the southern province of Najaf.

The PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, said in a statement that the medical units were likely set on fire by unknown elements, al-Sumaria TV reported.

It said all of the equipment in the two medical units were destroyed by the fires.

The PMU added that investigations continue to identify those behind the criminal act.

The filed hospitals had been set up to provide medical services to Arbaeen pilgrims and those visiting the holy city of Najaf to take part in mourning ceremonies on the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

On Monday night, the PMU discovered several explosive detonators near the tomb of its martyred Deputy Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Najaf.

The explosive materials were discovered in Wadi al-Salam district of Najaf, Hashd al-Shaabi said.
