TEHRAN (IQNA) – People across Turkey took to mosques on Monday morning and recited verses of the Holy Quran in response to the desecration of the Quran by a far-right politician in Sweden.

Muslims across Turkey participated in the sessions after fajr prayers upon the call made by the country’s head of Religious Affairs Ali Erbas on social media.

Ebras also attended one of the sessions which was held at Haci Bayram Mosque in Ankara.

Addressing the event, he said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) came to guide humans from darkness to light. “The Quran should be taught in the best manner and its teachings should be explained to all people,” he said.

Islam is the religion of peace and compassion, he said, adding that the Quran has come down not just for Muslims but for all people.

Far-right politician Rasmus Paludan, the leader of the Stram Kurs (Hard Line) Party, under the protection of police and with permission from the government, burned a copy of the Quran outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm on Saturday.

The act of blasphemy has been strongly condemned by Muslim countries, organizations, and people across the world.
