The ceremony was attended by a large number of people and officials, including the country’s head of Religious Affairs Ali Erbas at Gazi Osman Paşa Mosque in the area.
Memorization certificates and gifts were presented to 120 boy and 138 girl memorizers.
Addressing the event, Erbas said mosques in Turkey provide courses on Quran recitation and memorization for all citizens.
“The Quran is the biggest miracle and God sent it down so as to guide people from darkness to light,” he said.
According to Turkish officials, some 12,500 managed to memorize the Quran in the country last year.
The Holy Quran is the only religious Scripture that is memorized by its followers.
Innumerable persons in every Muslim community have memorized the Quran since the first day it was revealed.
The Quran has 30 Juzes (parts), 114 Surahs (chapters), and 6,236 verses.
