TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has wished that the Islamic Ummah would restore its glory as diplomatic ties are being enhanced across the region.

He made the remarks on Monday in a meeting in Tehran with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to what the Sultan of Oman said about Egypt's desire to resume relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying, “We welcome this position and we have no problem with it.”

Earlier reports had suggested that Muscat seeks to mediate for improving ties between Tehran and Cairo during the Sultan’s official visit to Iran.

The meeting also comes some two months after Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume diplomatic ties after talks mediated by China.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Tehran’s policy is to grow and strengthen relations with neighbors and countries in the region.

He also hoped that the increased cooperation between Islamic countries would serve the interests of all Muslim and regional states.

The Islamic Revolution Leader also warned about the danger of the Israeli regime in the region, saying, “The policy of the Zionist regime and its supporters is to create conflict; so all countries in the region should be careful about this issue.”

Elsewhere, he said that Iran and Oman have long-lasting, strong and friendly ties, adding that cooperation between Oman and Iran is important because they share the very important Strait of Hormuz waterway.

Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, for his part, expressed satisfaction for meeting Ayatollah Khamenei, adding that Oman's policy is to grow relations with its neighbors, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran.
