TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leaders of the region’s resistance movements reiterated the need for continuing the confrontation with the Zionist regime and supporting the cause of Palestine.

Webinar on Al-Quds

Addressing an online forum titled Minbar al-Quds on Tuesday, ahead of the International Quds Day, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, said the Palestinian nation keeps Jihad and resistance in defense of Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

He said the Palestinian nation has strong will and shows its resolve to defend Al-Quds.

He also hailed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for Palestine and resistance.

Bahrain's top Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim in his address said the Islamic Ummah has a duty to revive the International Quds Day.

He said people’s participation in the rallies marking the occasion should be more massive than previous years.

Sheikh Qassim noted that Al-Aqsa Mosque is facing the most intense aggression by the Zionists, stressing that the Muslim Ummah should remain serious in defending Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa.

He also condemned the move by some Arab regimes, including Bahrain, to normalize ties with the Israeli regime, saying the people of Bahrain condemn the move and resist the act of treason.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayed Hassan Nasrallah was another speaker at the forum. He luaded Imam Khomeini’s prudent move four decades ago to announce a day in Ramadan as the International Quds Day.

He said that while the Zionist regime’s strategy was to consign the issue of Palestine to oblivion and thought the region’s nations would abandon the cause of Palestine, today Al-Quds is the main issue in the Muslim world.

Nasrallah added that Al-Quds is the pivot of unity among the nations, groups and governments of the axis of resistance.

He reiterated that defending Al-Quds is the duty of the entire Muslim Ummah, adding that Hezbollah stands beside the Palestinian brothers at the frontline of confrontation with Zionism.

Other speakers at the forum included Iraq’s grand Sunni mufti, Sheikh Mahdi al-Sumaidaie, and head of the country’s Al-Fath Alliance Hadi al-Ameri.

Sheikh al-Sumaidaie described the announcement of the International Quds Day by Imam Khomeini as a strategic plan to liberate Palestine.

He added that while some Arab regime have normalized ties with Israel, the signs of liberation of Palestine will emerge from Iraq.

He said Iraqi resistance groups are ready to contribute to liberation of Palestine.

Al-Ameri also said that the Zionist regime is a short-lived regime built on falsehood and that it will be gone as it is God’s promise.

The International Quds Day is a legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, who designated the day in solidarity with Palestinians.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the International Quds Day has been held worldwide on the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

This year, the International Quds Day falls on Friday, April 29.
