Qaris from 7 Countries Partake in Quranic Program in Iraq

The International Tabligh (propagation) Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine is implementing the plan, the website of the Astan reported.

Muntazar al-Mansouri, director of the center, noted that this is the second edition of the initiative being implemented for Quran reciters.

He noted that 70 qaris from Iraq, Iraq, Bahrain, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Lebanon and Indonesia took part in the preliminary phase of the second edition, which was a qualification process.

Thirty-three of them managed to qualify for the second phase, which is being held online, al-Mansouri stated.

He said it will run five days a week for one month and includes lessons taught by a group of Iraqi Quran experts.

The lessons are on Sawt, Lahn, Waqf and Ibtida, rules of recitation, Quranic ethics, and Quranic concepts, among others, he noted.

There will be an examination at the end of this phase and the top participants will qualify for the next phase, which will be held in-person at the center’s branch in the holy city of Qom, Iran, he went on to say.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the Arab country in recent years.
