TEHRAN (IQNA) – Those who only ask worldly requests from God are surely asking for a great loss. Our religious leaders have prayed to God Almighty to bestow them the ability to be humble before Him.

In the supplication dedicated to day 15 of the blessed month of Ramadan, we read: “O Allah, on this day, grant me the obedience of the humble, expand my chest through the repentance of the humble, by Your security, O the shelter of the fearful.”

Humble worship

The Holy Quran describes those who believe in the revelations like this: “They fall down upon their chin, weeping and it increases them in humility.” (Surah Al-Isra’, verse 109)

The main purpose of worship is to purify the soul from impurities, and any action that enhances the purity of worship is desirable and a priority. Humility is one of the virtues that plays a significant role in cleaning the heart and increasing the effect of worship.

The Holy Quran has named humbleness among features of the prosperous believers: “Prosperous are the believers, who are humble in their prayers,” reads first two verses of Surah Al-Mu'minun. This humbleness should exist both in the heart and in other parts of the body.

Paying attention to and understanding the greatness of God can help us be humbler before Him.

Expansion of mind

One of the concepts that has been mentioned in the Quran and Islamic teachings is “expansion of mind” or “expansion of chest”. This concept refers to a sort of tolerance and power against heavy and difficult responsibilities. According to the verses of the Holy Quran, “expansion of chest” has been used by divine prophets to propagate their religion.

Among the effects of this trait is that it helps individuals get out of uncertainty, be more open and welcoming, be kinder, cover the faults of others, gain increased peace and calmness, and control their anger.

Contemplating Quranic verses, reciting Dhikr, and praying have been named as measures for reaching this feature.

Safety for those who fear Allah

What does fear of God mean? It is a feeling created based on our deeds and the divine assessment for rewards and punishments. On Resurrection Day, our deeds will be assessed and people will be awarded or punished for what they have done in this world. So, the fear is rooted not in God but in our deeds because it is the latter that can push us toward Hell. “There is no safety on the Day of Judgment except for those who fear Allah in the world,” said Imam Hussein (AS).
