Israel Failed to Suppress Resistance, Create Deterrence, Islamic Jihad Official Says

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior member of the Islamic Jihad movement hailed the recent victory of Palestinian resistance forces against the Israeli regime which was an outcome of unity and patience.

In an interview with IQNA, Haitham Abu al-Ghazlan referred to the recent attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip and said the occupation regime failed to suppress the Palestinian resistance and create deterrence.

The Tel Aviv regime launched the deadly bombing campaign on Gaza on May 9, sparking the firing of over 1,000 rockets by the Islamic Jihad toward the occupied territories.

After five days of fighting, the two sides agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire that took effect on Saturday night.

Israeli aerial assaults killed at least 33 Palestinians in Gaza, including six children, and wounded 147, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Several Islamic Jihad leaders were also among the Palestinian martyrs.

The conflict marked the worst episode of fighting between Gaza’s resistance factions and Israel since a 10-day war in 2021.

Abu al-Ghazlan told IQNA that the Palestinian nation proved in this latest conflict that the blood of martyrs is so valuable to the people and that Benjamin Netanyahu cannot save the Israeli regime by shedding the blood of Palestinians.

The occupation regime is well aware that the Palestinian resistance remains steadfast and will not retreat an iota from the path of resistance until all Palestinian lands are liberated and ultimate victory is achieve, he stated.

He added that the Islamic Jihad also proved in this latest war that it is ready for the continuation of the fight against Israel and firing missiles on occupied territories for a long time.

As for the ceasefire, Abu al-Ghazlan said the Islamic Jihad took great steps both on the battlefield and in the political front in order to secure a noble victory for the Palestinian nation and confront the Israeli aggression, and that is why the ceasefire agreement was reaches, which includes an end to Israeli attacks on civilians and destruction of homes.

He said the Islamic Jihad will remain committed to the agreement as long as the Zionist enemy does so.

“We certainly do not trust the Zionist regime and its promises and only trust our power in the resistance and our ability to fire missiles and count on our fighters who resisted against the most intense attacks by the Zionist regime.”

He also noted that the response to the Israeli aggression under the leadership of the Islamic Jihad and Saraya Al-Quds group was based on a national agreement.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Abu al-Ghazlan censured the international community for remaining silent on the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime and condemned the United States for supporting the Zionist regime’s terrorism.
