In a speech on Saturday, he said their services to the development of Quranic activities in the country were unique.

Gomaa also praised senior qaris for attending Quran recitation sessions and traveling long distances to recite the Holy Book, Egypt Today reported.

He referred to the qaris attending a Khatm Quran session at the Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque in Cairo as an example, saying they recited the entire Quran in two days.

The Awqaf minister added that at the order of Egypt’s president and in line with supporting qaris and honoring their efforts, the ministry has doubled their annual salary from 1 million to 2 million Egyptian pounds.

The Khatm Quran program at the Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque started on Friday morning and concluded on Saturday evening.

Forty top qaris, including Sheikh Taha al-Numani, Sheikh Mahmoud Muhammad al-Khisht, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim al-Maraqi, Sheikh Fathi Khalif, and Sheikh Al-Azab Salim, took part in the program.

The Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque, also known as Al-Hussein Mosque, is a famous mosque in an old section of Cairo which was originally constructed in 1154 and was reconstructed in 1874.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Quranic activities are very common in the Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
