On January 3, 2020, a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport assassinated General Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

The attack, which also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) anti-terror group, along with several others -- came while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.

As the fourth anniversary of the assassinations nears, the Ashrat al-Fajr al-Quraniya plan is going to be held in different governorates of Iraq, such as Baghdad, Najaf, Saladin, Meysan, Kirkuk, Mosul, Wasit, Babil, Basra and Dhi Qar.

It will include 140 Quran recitation circles, Masoud Daris, director of Basair al-Quraniya Institute told IQNA.

He said that it will organize the Quranic event in cooperation with Al-Ittihad and Al-Tajammuat al-Quraniaya institutes.

This would arguably be the largest Quranic event in the Muslim world, he stated.

The official said the Quranic programs will be launched on December 24 and run for ten days.
