IQNA – The grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center said bitter incidents happening in the world demonstrate the fact that humanity needs the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb said humanity has never been more in need of the Quran’s guidance, al-Watan reported.

He was speaking at a ceremony held Saturday night at the al-Manara international conferences hall in Cairo on the occasion of the Night of Qadr.

Sheikh al-Tayyeb warned that the world has lost wise leadership and is moving toward the edge of a cliff like no other time in history.

After decades of civilizational dialogue among nations, dialogue has now been replaced by tensions and clashes in a shocking way, he deplored.

The Al-Azhar chief added that those behind these clashes and wars are political and military leaders with stone hearts away from divine mercy.

They are confronting civilian and defenseless people who have no idea of fighting and killing, he stated, referring to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

There are defenseless children, women and patients (in Gaza) whose bodies have been left in the streets or remained under the rubble of destroyed buildings, he said.

The Israeli regime’s war on Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded many more.
